Cameroon Becomes Eighth Qualified Team Of FIFA Confederations Cup 2017

African football team Cameroon qualified for the finals of FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 as Champions of Africa Cup of Nations 2017. After wait of 15 years, the nation lifted that trophy, winning against Egypt by 2-1 in the final. In a nail-biting final, substitute Vincent Aboubakar netted the deciding goal just before two minutes from time. After conquering Africa, Cameroon got the opportunity to conquer Mini Football World Cup or you can say Tournament of Champions.

How Cameroon Conquered Africa In 2017?

Being winners of Group M in Africa Cup of Nations 2017 qualifiers, Cameroon booked a place for the finals on 3rd June 2016. In finals, they begun their journey with opening game against Burkina Faso with a 1-1 draw. Both teams [Cameroon and Burkina Faso] qualified for the quarter final round though Cameroon qualified as runners-up.

In quarter finals, Cameroon met Senegal where both teams failed to break the deadlock even after extra time. But Cameroon netted all penalties and one mistake by Senegal costed them elimination from the Championship.

Later, they got Ghana as their semi final rivals. It was a brilliant play by Cameroon as they netted two goals without conceding anyone. Ultimately, Cameroon was all set to end 15 years drought of AFCON title.

In the final against Egypt, Cameroon conceded an early goal in 22nd minute. Egyptian Elneny was the goal scorer. Later, Egypt started playing a defensive game and that went the way they never expected. N’Koulou first scored the equalizer, substitute Aboubakar did remaining job and Cameroon won fifth AFCON title. Congratulations!

Cameroon will be in group B of Confederations Cup 2017

With AFCON title, Cameroon got the opportunity to play with other Confederations Champions in the upcoming “Tournament of Champions” to be held in Russia. Check other teams of Confederations Cup 2017.

This is the third appearance of Cameroon in FIFA Confederations Cup competition. Before this edition, the nation have played it in 2001 and in 2003. In the edition of 2003, Cameroon just missed it when they lost to hosts France in final.
