The first match of Confederation Cup 2017 will be played on 17th of June 2017 in Russia with a grand opening ceremony. Total of 16 matches will be played throughout the competition. Host nation Russia will play first match against New Zealand at Krestovsky Stadium located in Saint Petersburg. The stadium also got the honor to host final match that will be played on 2nd July 2017.

On 2nd December 2010, it was officially announced that Russia will host the tenth edition of FIFA Confederation Cup. But there is host nation and FIFA World Cup winner, we have eight national football teams who will compete for the title. Three teams [Russia, Portugal and Chile] are playing this competition for the first time. Being host nation Russia qualified for the competition. Chile and Portugal won the first ever Copa America and UEFA Euro respectively and qualified for Confederation Cup 2017. For the first time in this competition, three teams [Germany, Portugal and Russia] from UEFA have qualified for the this championship.

Venues For FIFA Confederation Cup 2017

Russia have picked up four football stadiums to host these games. These are Krestovsky Stadium, Otkrytiye Arena, Fisht Olympic Stadium and Kazan Arena. Krestovsky Stadium is the biggest stadium which can accommodate 68, 134 spectators. This ground will host first and last match of the competition.

Format of the Competition

FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 format

All eight qualified teams are grouped into two groups have four teams each. There will be round robin games at first stage and based on their performances, teams will qualify for knock-out round. According to FIFA rules, two teams of same confederations cannot be drawn into same group except if there are three teams from same confederation.

This is the first ever Confederations Cup edition in each three teams from same confederation [Russia, Germany, Portugal] have qualified. So Group A is featured with two teams of same Confederation. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the next round which is semi final round.

Prize Money for winning and other teams

Total prize money of FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 is calculated as $24 million. It is $4 million more as compared to the previous edition which was $20 million. The prize money distribution is:
